Southern China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Philippines have experienced a relatively light typhoon season this year, but the situation is different in Japan where the country is preparing for Typhoon Hagibis. It is expected to make landfall in Honshu tomorrow, with possibly a central pressure lower than 960hPa, which would make it the most intense storm in recorded history.
At press time, All Nippon Airways (ANA) had cancelled all domestic flights at Tokyo Haneda and Narita for Saturday, impacting approximately 370 services. Japan Airlines (JAL) has cancelled six Tokyo flights and may add more to the cancellation list. ANA said it may have to cancel flights at Osaka and Nagoya, while JAL said it may cancel flights at Nagoya.
Japan is at further risk since there is a full moon, which produces water levels higher than normal, increasing the potential for flooding.
