American Airlines and Qatar Airways resume code-share partnership after two-year hiatus

American Airlines has put aside its previous differences with Qatar Airways to re-establish a code-share agreement on flights between the United States and Qatar, as well as destinations in the Middle East, East Africa, South Asia and South East Asia. Read More » In 2017, American terminated its code-share with Qatar Airways as part of a campaign against the expansion of Middle East carriers – Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways – in the U.S. American chief executive, Doug Parker, said in a note to employees: "We can’t announce today’s news with Qatar Airways without acknowledging there have been differences between our airlines. However, during the past several months the dialogue has been good, and we have agreed that we can move forward and begin a new chapter." American said it was evaluating starting flights to Doha with its own aircraft.
On Thursday, the Qatari carrier announced another code-share, this time with Air Malta. The Doha airline commenced direct flights between its home hub and Malta last June, with a daily service in the northern Summer peak period and a four times a week schedule for the remainder of the year.
