ALLIANCES: Star Alliance introduced its second Star Alliance Connecting Partner, full service regional carrier, THAI Smile, in Bangkok this week. Read More » THAI Smile is a subsidiary of Thai Airways International (THAI), a founding member of Star Alliance. Shanghai’s Juneyao Airlines became the alliance’s first Connecting Partner in May 2017.
MRO & COMPONENTS: Emirates Airlines and component company, Spairliners, have signed a General Terms Agreement to supply component aftermarket solutions to the Dubai-based carrier’s A380 fleet. Emirates operates the largest A380 fleet in the world. Based in Hamburg, Spairliners’s equal joint partners are AFI KLM E & M and Lufthansa Technik.
OEMs: Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation announced yesterday the manufacturer had completed its maiden flight of a test jet powered by a Japan assembled Pratt & Whitney GTF PW1200G engine. The test flight was conducted at the company’s Moses Lake flight test centre in Washington in the U.S.
TRAINING: All Nippon Airways is introducing Virtual Reality (VR) training to improve the ability of aircraft technicians to identify future risk in their work and improve safety over the longer term. The ANA new VR Safety Training System will use 3-D simulations to create real-world scenarios based on common work related accidents, ANA said.

BAA Training Vietnam has completed installation of it second full flight simulator, for A320neo training, at its training centre in Ho Chi Minh City. The training company, which opened its 3,000 sq. metre centre in Vietnam’s capital last September, said its client list includes local carriers, VietJet and Bamboo Airlines, and students from Vietnam, Japan, South Korea and Australia.
Malaysia’s BATS Aviation SDN BHD has purchased an en 1000 FNPT II simulator from Spanish manufacturer, Entrol. It will be installed at the Perak-based training academy by mid-2020.
