Announced on March 23, the measures are a government waiver for air traffic control charges as well as parking and air bridge fees for idle passenger aircraft.

Airlines will receive a 40% reduction in passenger aircraft landing charges and relief measures for ramp handling, maintenance and airside vehicle-related fees, Hong Kong International Airport said in a statement.

There will be a "full waiver of commercial service counter licence fees, in-terminal service licence fees and fees paid by cross-border transport operators will be provided for four months".

Airport shops and restaurants would benefit from rental relief on top of previous aid.

The support package included a HK$50 million training allowance earmarked for frontline airport staff currently on no-pay leave.

In other Hong Kong news, the Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government banned all visitors from entering the HKSAR and also transit passengers travelling through Hong Kong. The restrictions are in place until to April 7 and are subject to later revision.

Hong Kong residents returning from overseas are now subject to compulsory 14-day quarantine.
