China Airlines adding destinations this month

Taiwan-headquartered China Airlines (CAL) said this week it would resume flights to three Japanese cities in September, as well as adding to its existing network. Read More »

The SkyTeam alliance member will commence a once-weekly service on the Taipei-Fukuoka and Taipei-Osaka routes and from Taipei to Nagoya once a fortnight. The airline also is boosting frequencies to Tokyo Narita and Seoul Incheon this month.

CAL said it would also increase services to a host of regional cities including Bangkok, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Penang, Phnom Penh, Singapore and Yangon, with Taipei-Jakarta moving to a daily schedule.

It also will increase flights to Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Vancouver, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and London Heathrow.

CAL’s schedule for September and October will be 33 routes – 31 flights from Taipei and two from Kaohsiung. In July, it carried 25,088 passengers, down 98.3% from the 1.4 million it transported a year ago. But the passengers transported increased by 54% to 16,241, compared with June.

Capacity rose 84% from June to July and demand was up 28.8% month-on-month. July’s load factor was 27.6% compared with 39.1% in June.

Taiwanese rival, EVA Air, carried 39,262 passengers in July, up 76% from 22,337 in June.
