SIA Group “expects measured expansion” in coming months

SIA Group (SIA) yesterday reported a net loss of S$141.8 million (US$106 million) for the three months to December 31, 2020, compared with a net profit of S$314.8 million 12 months ago. Read More » Total revenue tumbled 76.1%, to S$1.1 billion, the group said in a regulatory filing to the Singapore Exchange (SGX). "The resurgence of COVID-19 infections and the spread of more transmissible strains of the virus continue to weigh on international air travel as border controls and travel restrictions tighten in many countries," SIA Group said.
Looking ahead, the company expected to see a "measured expansion of the passenger network over the coming months" in line with Singapore's progressive re-opening. The airline group - Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Scoot - expected total passenger capacity to reach 25% of pre-COVID-19 levels by the end of April and its route network was predicted to improve to 45% of levels before the pandemic.
