SIA says frequent flyer data affected by SITA data breach

Singapore Airlines (SIA) said yesterday some personal details of the 580,000 members of its KrisFlyer frequent flyer and PPS programs have been affected by a data security breach involving air transport information technology company SITA's passenger service system (SITA PPS). Read More » The airline said it was not a member of the SITA PSS, but the system did have access to a restricted set of frequent flyer data – name, membership number and tier status – given one of the 26 Star Alliance member airlines used the service. "Specifically, this data breach does not involve KrisFlyer and PPS member passwords, credit card information and other customer data such as itineraries, reservations, ticketing, passport numbers and email addresses," SIA said. "We would also like to reassure all customers that none of SIA’s IT systems have been affected by this incident."
