China Eastern Airlines records 284% domestic passenger jump during Lunar holiday month

China Eastern Airlines' (CEA) monthly traffic report, published yesterday, showed it flew 3.9 million passengers on its domestic network in February, a 283.8% increase from one million customers transported a year earlier. Read More » Compared with pre-COVID-19 levels, the February 2021 figures were down 55.8%, from the 8.7 million domestic passengers CEA flew in February two years ago. Domestic passenger load factor was up 17.9 percentage points, at 62.7% year-on-year, from 44.8% previously, CEA said. Capacity increased 181.1% over February 2020. CEA's international network remained subdued with passenger numbers declining by 95% year-on-year. Separately, CEA said it had returned to service its last stored aircraft at Shanghai Pudong Airport. The SkyTeam member said its parked aircraft had gone down from a peak of 42 in June 2020 to 23 by mid-August and 20 at the close of calendar 2020.
