China’s biggest airline group believes global pandemic trend “highly uncertain”

China Southern Airlines (CSA) said the future was highly uncertain as it reported a net loss of 10.8 billion yuan (US$1.7 billion) for the 12 months to December 31, 2020, compared with a net profit of 2.6 billion yuan 12 months earlier. Read More » Revenue was off 40%, to 92.6 billion yuan, CSA said in a regulatory filing to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
"Looking forward to 2021, the global pandemic trend is still highly uncertain and various risks brought by the impact of the pandemic continue to emerge," CSA said. "The group will pay close attention to the pandemic situation and changes in the aviation market, strengthen its analysis and judgment and flexibly adjust marketing strategies in every effort to improve quality and increase efficiency.”
CSA plans to increase domestic capacity and develop its Guangzhou and Urumqi hubs. It added there would be a "focus" on the Beijing Daxing hub. "We will optimise routes and flights and ensure capacity matches the market to maximise the overall marginal contribution," CSA said.
