Qantas is expected to be at 90% of pre-COVID-19 levels by June 30 and its LCC, Jetstar, forecast to be at 100% due to strong leisure demand. The group had expected to be at 80% by the end of fiscal 2020/21. Despite the improvement in the domestic market, Joyce said the company would remain in the red for a second consecutive year. "It’s important to keep this uptick in perspective," Joyce said in a statement. "We are still facing a massive financial loss this year, which will be the second one in a row. We’ve lost more than A$11 billion (US$8.5 billion) in revenue since the pandemic started. That number will keep growing until international travel recovers.”
Jetstar planned to return up to five of its 11 787-9s to service domestic routes from June 1. The 787s normally operate internationally. As previously announced, six A320s from Jetstar Japan are being redeployed to the Australian market.
