Japan Airlines cuts domestic capacity to 63%; All Nippon Airways reduces in-country June flying to 55%

Japan Airlines (JAL) said yesterday it had cancelled a further 559 domestic flights between May 18-31 and 8,201 in June amid a growing number of daily coronavirus infections across the country. Read More » Under the new schedule, JAL planned to fly 63% of its normal domestic flying pattern in May, down two percentage points from the oneworld alliance member's 65% operation rate announced at the end of April. JAL also is closing one security checkpoint at Tokyo Haneda Airport's domestic terminal given the "reduction in the demand for travel combined with the government's declaration of a state of emergency". The June operation rate was at 68%.
Similarly, All Nippon Airways updated domestic schedule, published yesterday, showed 9,813 cancelled domestic flights in June, representing an operation rate of 55% for the month. The Star Alliance member said the revised schedule was a response to changes in demand trends.
