Air New Zealand to establish temporary crew base in Brisbane to serve Norfolk Island

Air New Zealand (Air NZ) has received a contract extension to operate non-stop flights from Brisbane and Sydney to the Australian external territory of Norfolk Island, until the end of August 2023. Read More » The current agreement was to expire on August 30, 2021. Air NZ said in a note to travel agents it would establish a temporary pilot and cabin crew base in Brisbane until November 30 to ensure potential disruptions to the quarantine-free air travel bubble between Australia and New Zealand did not affect the continuity of services to Norfolk Island. The Star Alliance member's Norfolk Island schedule from August 30 is three flights a week from Brisbane and Sydney with A320s. Qantas has been serving Norfolk Island from Australia on a temporary basis since February, when Air NZ suspended flights due to COVID-19 rules in Australia for cabin crew operating domestic flights.
