Hong Kong regulator plans December hearing for submissions from launch carrier, Greater Bay Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines

Hong Kong's Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA) has scheduled a private inquiry into Greater Bay Airlines (GBA), scheduled for December, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper has reported, citing unnamed sources. Read More » The development has cast doubt on GBA's stated ambition to begin operations on October 1 with a charter flight from Hong Kong to Beijing. The SCMP report said the ATLA hearing also will consider submissions from Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways and Hong Kong Airlines. Last month, GBA director, Stanley Hui, said incumbent airlines had tried to slow GBA's approvals process. The LCC start-up this week welcomed its first 737-800 to its Hong Kong hub. The aircraft, registration B-KJA, is being used for training. It flew between Hong Kong and Macau yesterday.
