Cathay Pacific Airways is introducing a three-tier fare structure better tailored to the travel needs of customers. Read More » The airline’s passengers can now choose Light, Essential and Flex fares that will be rolled out progressively across its network. The changed structure will commence on September 28 with tickets originating in Malaysia, South Korea and Taiwan. Light fares are aimed at passengers with confirmed travel plans who are travelling light. They include one piece of checked luggage with the option of paying for additional luggage but there is no free seat selection or ability to upgrade using Asia Miles. Essential fares include an extra piece of luggage, seat selection and the option to upgrade using miles. Flex fares are targeted at business travellers needing maximum flexibility. The airline is moving its baggage policy from a weight-based system to one that is piece-based. It said the change provides a more generous allowance for most fare types and cabin classes.
