Read More » The South Pacific holiday destination has lifted quarantine requirements from November 11 for Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., the UK, the UAE, Canada, Qatar, Germany, Spain, France, South Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, Japan and most Pacific Island countries and territories. It is planning an official reopening on December 1 when Fiji Airways will return to commercial flying with flights to major tourism destinations. The airline’s first commercial flight since March 2020 is scheduled to depart Sydney for Nadi on the morning of December 1 as part of a schedule that will see it operate 14 flights a week using the airline’s latest A350-900 and 737 MAX aircraft. Also scheduled to resume are daily Los Angeles (A350), Melbourne and Brisbane flights, five flights a week to San Francisco (A330) and two 737 MAX flights to Honolulu. In Asia, there will be three flights a week to Hong Kong and two a week to Singapore and Tokyo-Narita using the A330. Arriving travellers must be fully vaccinated, present evidence of a 72-hour negative RT-PCR test prior to boarding and complete an additional rapid test at their pre-booked resort or hotel upon arrival before holidaying quarantine free. “After almost two years of no tourism, we are more than ready to safely welcome back international travellers from December 1 and greet them with our famous Fijian hospitality,’’ said Fiji Airways CEO, Andre Viljoen. “Fiji’s entire tourism industry has been waiting for this.” However, Fiji Airways will not have the field to itself with Australia’s Qantas Group already scheduling flights to the island nation. Virgin Australia also is expected to make an announcement as early as today on services in the Pacific. The Qantas Group is planning five weekly Jetstar flights from December 17 and four Qantas flights per week from December 19, initially offering 3,200 seats weekly from Sydney.
