The big plane is back at Singapore Airlines (SIA) with A380 services to London to resume on November 18 in time for the holiday season. Read More » SIA’s decision to bring back the double-decker aircraft was prompted by the inclusion of the UK in Singapore’s Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) arrangements and strong passenger demand for services to and from London. The resumed flights will include the daily SQ322 service from Singapore to London and SQ317, the return London to Singapore leg that is a designated quarantine-free flight under Singapore’s VTL arrangements. Prior to A380’s return to the London route, SIA will deploy the A380 on an ad hoc basis on short-haul routes for operational requirements. The A380 is popular with passengers and boasts SIA’s upmarket first class suites. Singapore Airlines regional vice president South-West Pacific, Louis Arul, said SIA was looking forward to welcoming customers on board the aircraft again. He pointed to Australia as a market where the service was expected to be popular. “Our award-winning digital initiatives and our industry leading health and safety measures will ensure passengers travel in comfort and safety as they reunite with family and friends,” he said. SIA’s health and safety measures include extensive cabin cleaning and the provision of personal care kits for each customer. SIA aircraft are equipped with HEPA filters and all customers and crew are required to wear masks for the duration of their flights, except during meals. SIA would remain “nimble and flexible” in deploying capacity to markets as the demand warranted, Arul said.
