AirAsia X moves to calm passenger fears over restructure
AirAsia X (AAX) has moved to reassure passengers they will receive some form of compensation from its proposed restructuring. Read More » The airline has told creditors, which includes passengers and travel agents owed some RM600 million ($US144.4m), they will collect 0.5% of funds owed to them. The offer has attracted criticism with experts calling for passengers to receive acceptable compensation and warning the company risks losing the trust of consumers. AirAsia X issued a statement late last week indicating it was planning to provide affected customers with some form of travel credit if the restructuring is successful, but did not offer specific details. “We wish to assure [creditors] that where the AAX debt restructuring exercise is successful, it is the intention of AAX to put in place travelling privileges in the form of travel credits. They can be utilised for future purchases of flight tickets or other goods or services provided by AAX once international borders reopen,’’ the statement said. “In general, the Scheme is intended to comprise the debts of AAX and release AAX from all claims and liabilities in accordance with the terms of the Scheme including any claims for refunds. Notwithstanding, AAX recognises the support of passengers and the importance of their goodwill and intends to put in place a form of travel credits to reward such passengers. The travel credits are not obligatory and if implemented, shall be provided at AAX’s discretion and in such manner and upon such terms as it deems fit.”
