Thai Prime Minister pushes for ASEAN reopening

Read More » Prayut told other ASEAN leaders attending a virtual conference this week they should follow in Thailand’s footsteps and start reopening to revive their economies, the Bangkok Post reported. The Thai prime minister called for the ASEAN Travel Corridor Arrangement to be put into practice with mutual recognition of vaccines and vaccine certificates to facilitate business travel and later tourism, the newspaper said. "In this context, Thailand has opened pilot areas under the Phuket Sandbox programme to welcome foreign tourists and will gradually open more areas," Prayut said. Thailand has had pilot projects running in Phuket and other islands. From November 1, it will allow quarantine-free travel to other top tourist spots across the nation for visitors from 45 countries, including the UK, U.S., Canada, Germany France, Australia, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Cambodia. Visitors must have spent at least 21 days in an eligible country prior to arrival, produce negative COVID-19 tests before and after travel and have COVID-19 insurance of at least US$50,000.
