China Airlines officially commits to net-zero emissions
October 28th 2021
Taiwan’s China Airlines (CAL) has officially set an operational target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. Read More » CAL said it passed its 2020 target “with flying colors” and underwent an independent third-party verification this year by Norway-based accreditation agency DNV. The carrier received a certificate of “reasonable assurance”, the highest possible level for greenhouse gas inventory under ISO 14064-1:2018. It also had set science-based targets and 73 initiatives, implemented in 2020, had exceeded an original target of reducing greenhouse emissions by 38%. CAL said it worked actively with organisations such as International Air Transport Association, the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) and the SkyTeam alliance to advocate sustainability. “The carrier hopes to work with government and industry stakeholders in the aviation industry including the domestic government, airline regulators, fuel vendors and ground service providers,’’ CAL said of its net-zero target. “By creating an environment that fosters environmental sustainability and international competitiveness, China Airlines will continue to push for positive economic, social and environmental outcomes.”
