Qantas Airways relaunches international flights with digital guide

Qantas Airways has introduced a customised digital guide to help passengers work their way through the airline’s first scheduled international flights in 20 months when they are launched on Monday. Read More » The “digital experience” is among several changes — including plant-based meals, compostable paper wrappings on amenity kits, sustainable bamboo stirrers and compostable cups —being introduced as the Flying Kangaroo re-establishes its international network. It is being put in place because the Australian government’s decision to bring forward the start of international operations means the IATA Travel Pass is not yet available to passengers. Qantas said it will be integrated in its systems in coming weeks. Until then, passengers can check in four hours before they fly to give staff more time to conduct document checks. Border requirements for specific destinations are available on the airline’s website before booking. Once a booking is made, the travel requirements will be emailed to customers and followed up with emails or SMS messages sent seven days, four days and one day ahead of departure. “We have redesigned our digital booking experience with world first technology to help our customers easily navigate the post COVID-19 world of international travel and guide them through each step, including regular checklists sent via text ahead of their flights,’’ Qantas Group chief customer officer, Stephanie Tully, said. Meanwhile, Qantas partner, Emirates Airline, is boosting its operations to Australia with daily 777-300ER flights to Sydney from November 2 and the reintroduction of its flagship A380 from December 1. The airline said the 50% increase in capacity to Sydney was to serve pent up demand.
