Indian authorities have approved more than 22,000 weekly domestic flights for the northern winter schedule, only 4% short of 2019 levels. Read More » The Directorate General of Civil Aviation approved 22, 287 flights between October 31 and March 26 with several airlines, including market leader IndiGo, increasing weekly departures. A major exception was SpiceJet which reported a departures decline from 4,316 per week in 2019 to 2,995 per week in the current rooster. This left IndiGo, at 10,310 departures, with more than three times the frequencies of its nearest competitor. Other airlines to cut departures include GoFirst and Air India. The increased frequency is a result of the Indian Government’s decision to ease restrictions on airlines from mid-October.
