VietJet and Airbus have agreed on a timeline for delivering the airline’s existing backlog of 119 aircraft, including the supply of up to three A330s during this month. Read More » The Vietnamese LCC did not reveal how it planned to deploy the A330s, but recently it said it was looking to “expand its wings across continents”. The arrival of the aircraft at the carrier comes as competitors Vietnam Airlines and Bamboo Airways gear up to launching flights to the U.S. VietJet’s agreement with Airbus, announced in Paris on Friday, includes more support and training for technicians and engineers as well as supporting the LCC’s training academy with the development of flight simulators and training programs. The airline said it also covered areas such as aircraft equipment supply and services and the development of MRO facilities. “Our cooperation today again acknowledges both parties’ long-term and sustainable relationship, now elevated to a strategic and comprehensive partnership,’’ said VietJet managing director, Dinh Viet Phuong. “VietJet has pioneered choosing and operating a fleet that is not just new and modern but also environment friendly and fuel efficient to bring joyful and amazing flights to our passengers. I believe the add-on of the A330s will surely enhance our fleet’s technical reliability, operational efficiency and flight range to better meet the travel demand of our flyers in the coming times.” Airbus chief commercial officer, Christian Scherer, said VietJet’s fleet of modern and efficient aircraft meant the airline was well equipped to benefit from the rebound in air travel in Asia “where we see strong pent-up demand”.
