Read More » Subject to regulatory approval, the MoU is expected to come into effect from January with benefits such as seamless booking, ticketing, one baggage policy and check through to the final destinations of passengers across 18 routes on the networks of both carriers. Emirates customers will be able to connect on Garuda Indonesia flights from Jakarta to Denpasar, Surabaya, Makassar, Balikpapan, Manado, Medan, Padang and Solo airports. Emirates said routes directly connecting Denpasar with Surabaya and Makassar also would be available for passenger convenience. Garuda Indonesia will put its code on eight flights operated by Emirates: those connecting Dubai to Jakarta and Denpasar as well as services to Bahrain, Moscow, Johannesburg, Cairo, London Heathrow and Manchester. The airlines also plan to explore opportunities to cooperate on their frequent flyer program, allowing customers to “earn and burn” loyalty points on each other’s services. Emirates chief commercial officer, Adnan Kazim, said the partnership would give the Dubai airline’s customers additional destinations in Indonesia. “Indonesia is an important market for Emirates and our partnership with Garuda Indonesia is testament to Emirates’ commitment to continuously strengthen our network and complement our offering,’’ he said. Garuda Indonesia CEO, Irfan Setiaputra, said the partnership was timely as countries started reopening borders for international flights and eased their travel restrictions. “It also will help open up many opportunities for Indonesia’s trade and tourism activities,” he said.
