China’s “Big Three” airlines help keep Asia among the top 20 scheduled airlines

The “Big Three” Chinese carriers, India’s IndiGo and All Nippon Airways (ANA) are flying the flag for Asian carriers in the new list of the world’s top 20 scheduled airlines. Read More » Compiled by aviation data specialist, OAG, the list is dominated by U.S. airlines with American Airlines leading the list followed by Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines. The first entrant not from the U.S. is Europe’s Ryanair in fifth place. Next comes China Eastern Airlines followed by China Southern Airlines and IndiGo. Beijing-based Air China is in 11th spot, sandwiched between Turkish Airlines and Deutsche Lufthansa, and ANA is at the bottom of the table in 20th position. OAG chief analyst, John Grant, said the table showed carriers from Asia were continuing to find a path to recovery difficult, with Cathay Pacific Airways, Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia and Singapore Airlines all “propping up the table”.
