November 18th 2021
Boeing and SpiceJet have agreed to settle outstanding claims for the grounding of the 737 MAX fleet. Read More » SpiceJet is the U.S. manufacturer’s biggest customer in India. The settlement means Boeing can resume deliveries to the Indian LCC. In a statement, Spicejet said it was pleased with the settlement in which “Boeing has agreed to provide certain accommodations and settle the outstanding claims related to the grounding of 737 MAX aircraft and its return to service”. “This paves the way for the induction of efficient and younger MAX aircraft into the company's fleet and ensures the resumption of new aircraft deliveries from our order of 155 MAX aircraft,’’ SpiceJet said. The MAX fleet was grounded globally after fatal crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia but it has now been cleared to return to flying in many countries. India’s aviation regulator cleared the type to resume service in August. The settlement was the second piece of good news for Boeing in India in recent days. Earlier this week, the U.S. OEM announced a deal with start-up, Akasa Air, for 72 737 MAXs, an order that significantly widens its presence in the subcontinent.
