Airbus says Dubai Airshow demonstrates confidence in aviation recovery

Airbus says the swag of orders and commitments it received at the first major airshow since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic shows customers are confident about the recovery of the aviation sector. Read More » The Dubai Airshow has been lauded a success after it attracted 1,288 exhibitors and resulted in an onsite order book estimated by organisers to total US$54.5 billion by close of business. Among the airframe manufacturers, Airbus emerged the clear commercial aircraft leader with 269 firm orders and 139 commitments, including the first order for the A350F freighter. The Airbus tally was led by a firm order from Indigo Partners for 255 A320neo family aircraft and a commitment for 111 aircraft from leasing powerhouse, Air Lease Corporation. Kuwait’s Jazeera Airways committed to 28 A321neos and Nigeria’s Ibom Air became a new Airbus customer with a firm order for 10 A220s. U.S.’s Boeing trailed its European rival, but unveiled an order for 72 737 MAXs from Indian start-up, Akasa Air. It also received orders for more than 20 cargo jets: 11 737-800BCFs from Icelease, nine 767-300BCFs from DHL and two new 777F freighters from Emirates SkyCargo. Additionally, Boeing scored an Air Tanzania order for B787-9, a 767F freighter and two 737MAX jets and three B777-300 passenger jets from UAE-based aviation services provider, Sky One FZE. Boeing hit a high note in the flying display at the show garnering global attention when the international debut of its new B777X wowed spectators.
