Japan Airlines posts US$1.1 billion net loss in first three quarters of fiscal year

Japan Airlines (JAL) has reported a net loss of 128.3 billion yen (US$1.1 billion) for the nine months to December 31, almost halving its net loss of 212.7 billion yen in the same months in 2020. Read More » Revenue rose 39.8%, to 498.5 billion yen, JAL reported to the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The business environment improved in the three months to December 31 as domestic and international passenger demand recovered, the airline said. JAL forecast it will take a while until there is a complete recovery in air travel demand. "In the meantime, we will strive altogether for strict cost management, efficiency improvement, implementation of sales promotion in a timely manner and cargo revenue maximisation," it said. "Also, we will strive for maintaining an international and domestic network with safe operations and solid infection prevention measures to prepare for the reopening of international interaction of people without any barriers." JAL said its forecast net loss of 146 billion yen for the 12 months to March 31 is unchanged.
