Flag carrier boosts Australia schedule as New Zealand prepares to relax border rules

Air New Zealand (Air NZ) has scheduled more than 300 flights to Australia in March in response to the New Zealand government's planned relaxation of its international border. Read More » "Once we have a clearer view about the level of demand, we will adjust the schedule accordingly, but we are confident there will be seats available for those who need them," Air NZ chief customer and sales officer, Leanne Geraghty, said. "As expected, we have seen strong demand following the announcement with our first flights, on February 28, almost sold out." New Zealand prime minister, Jacinda Ardern, unveiled the country's border reopening last week, starting with allowing vaccinated New Zealanders and eligible people in Australia to travel to New Zealand without the need to complete two weeks of quarantine in a government facility. In coming months, the scheme will be extended to other countries and to international students and skilled workers with the border to fully reopen by October.
