Korean Air rolls out biometric self-boarding at Seoul Gimpo Airport

Select Korean Air (KAL) passengers travelling on domestic routes departing from Seoul Gimpo Airport can now board their flights with a scan of their palms, rather than using a boarding pass. Read More » The new biometric facilities, introduced yesterday, read palm vein information that recognises a passenger's identity. It is expected to "increase efficiency, strengthen the security of the identity verification process" and significantly reduce boarding times, KAL said. The palm vein biometric scan option is open to South Korean citizens seven years and older. Passengers can register their palm vein information at self-service kiosks at the airport. "The airline plans to expand the service to all domestic route departure gates at Gimpo Airport by the end of the year, and to Busan Gimhae Airport in August this year," KAL said. The SkyTeam alliance member also intends to expand biometric self-boarding services on international flights.
