ATR CEO, Stefano Bortoli, said this week that the turboprop manufacturer has experienced a "clear upward trend" in 2021 from positive signs of a recovering market. Read More » "This is not only due to improved economic conditions, but to our response to the challenges imposed by the pandemic," Bortoli said. ATR delivered 31 aircraft and booked orders for 35 more in 2021, up from 10 deliveries and six gross orders in 2020. The air framer has forecast demand for up to 460 freighters in the up to nine tonnes category in the next two decades. He added there were a potential 1,200 turboprops in the 30-to70-seat category that will need to be replaced. ATR said there is growth ahead for the company in Africa, Japan and South Asia where there is demand for increases in domestic and cross-border connections.

ATR senior vice president for commercial, Fabrice Vautier, said 40% of ATR operators were serving mainly essential services and 85% of ATR operations were domestic. "We expect these percentages to grow in 2022,” Vautier said. “COVID has accelerated some trends, such as the development of e-commerce and the shift to homeworking. This leads to an increase in demand for travel from smaller airports and creates new opportunities for regional operators."
