Losses climb at Thai AirAsia parent company

Thai AirAsia majority owner, Asia Aviation Public Company Limited (AAPC), has reported a net loss of 6.6 billion baht (US$204.3 million) for the 12 months to December 31, slumping deeper into the red from a net loss of 4.8 billion baht in the previous year. Thai AirAsia is expected to carry 12.3 million passengers in 2022, at a load factor of 78%, in line with the recovery of local tourism and the return of foreign visitors to Thailand, AAPC said. The forecast is an increase from 2.9 million travellers in 2021, 9.5 million in 2020 and 22.1 million in pre-pandemic 2019. The LCC will reduce its fleet to 53 aircraft by the end of 2022, from 60 at December 31, 2021.
