China Airlines records US$332 million profit for fiscal 2021

China Airlines (CAL) has reported a net profit of TW$9.4 billion (US$332 million) for the 12 months to December 31, up sharply from a net profit of TW$140 million in the previous year. Read More » Operating revenue increased 20.5%, to TW$138.8 billion, CAL said in a regulatory filing to the Taiwan stock exchange. New CAL chairman, Xie Shiqian, said the airline intended to grow cargo revenue by diversifying sales in a still a strong market. But the long-haul passenger market remains full of challenges for CAL given the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and rising fuel prices, the airline said. While optimistic about the future, CAL emphasised it will respond cautiously to market conditions.
