Australia records 1.2 million international air travellers in April

There were 1.2 million travellers who flew into and out of Australia in April, up 59.9% month-on-month from the country’s 697,969 international air passengers in March, the Australian Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE) reports. Read More » Compared with pre-COVID-19 levels, the April figure was 66.7% below the 3.5 million international passengers recorded into and out of Australia in the same 30 days in 2019. Capacity was 63.8% lower, at 1.6 million seats, from 4.3 million seats in April 2019. “International passenger traffic continues to be severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the BITRE report for April said. Singapore Airlines (SIA) was Australia's largest international carrier by passengers for the month, with a 17.9% market share, followed by Qantas Airways (15.7%) and Air New Zealand (11.1%). Two LCCs were in the top ten: Qantas group carrier, Jetstar, in sixth place with a 6% share of the market and Singapore Airlines group carrier, Scoot, in eighth position with a 4% market share.
