In a statement, Michael W. McCormick, Executive Director and COO of the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), said his organization “applauds and supports the International Civil Aviation Organization for taking the important step of creating an Aircraft Tracking Task Force and a Task Force on Risks to Civil Aviation Arising from Conflict Zones.”

During a two day meeting in Montreal, the Task Force on Risks to Civil Aviation Arising from Conflict Zones discussed methods to improve countries’ assessing and sharing of conflict zone information, ICAO said in a statement.

“We’re looking for urgent, practical measures to assess these new risks,” explained task force chairman David McMillan. McMillan is also head of the Flight Safety Foundation.

The group plans to meet again on August 25-26. Its preliminary findings will be delivered to the 203rd Session of the UN body’s 36‐State Governing Council in October 2014.

This Week in Asia-Pacific Aviation has requested additional information on the composition and agenda of the Aircraft Tracking Task Force from ICAO, but has not received comment until now.
