China Eastern Airlines expects US$2.5 billion to US$2.9 billion interim loss

In a regulatory filing to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, CEA said revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) in the first half of 2022 were 53.3% of 2019 levels and passenger numbers were down 63.7%. “Headquartered in Shanghai, the company was confronted with arduous challenges from the impact of COVID-19,” CEA said. “Meanwhile, the sharp rise in international oil prices and the depreciation of the Renminbi against the US dollar further aggravated cost pressures on the company.”
