Airbus and CFM International will conduct flight tests with an A380 on the engine maker's open fan architecture powerplant. Scheduled for the second half of the decade, the flights are part of the CFM Revolutionary Innovation for Sustainable Engine (RISE) demonstration program.
Separately, Airbus said Delta Air Lines have “firmed up” an order for 12 A220-300s, lifting the U.S. carrier's firm commitments to the A220 family to 45 A220-100s and 62 A220-300s.
Also at the airshow, Airbus signed Letters of Intent (LoI) alongside Air Canada, Air France-KLM, easyJet, International Airlines Group, LATAM Airlines Group, Lufthansa Group and Virgin Atlantic to “explore opportunities for a future supply of carbon removal credits from direct air carbon capture technology”.
ATR has won a firm order from Japan’s Oriental Air Bridge for a 42-600. The carrier also signed a global maintenance agreement (GMA) with ATR.
Additionally, the turboprop maker announced at the airshow that lessor Abelo had signed a heads of agreement for 10 72-600s with deliveries starting in 2023. Abelo also has confirmed an order for 10 of the 42-600S (STOL) variant previously agreed with Elix Aviation in 2019. The first 42-600S will be delivered at the close of 2024.
Boeing has received an order for 12 737 MAX 8s from lessor Aviation Capital Group. The purchase was previously attributed to “an unidentified customer” on Boeing’s website.
Separately, the U.S. air framer secured a firm order for 30 737 MAX 8 200s from 777 Partners alongside commitments for 36 of the type. It was 777 Partners' fifth order for 737 family aircraft. The U.S. investment company behind Australian start-up, Bonza, and Canada-based Flair Airlines now has 134 737 MAXs in its order book.
Boeing also has received an order for five 787-9s from lessor AerCap. The lessor now has 125 of the Boeing wide-body either owned or on order.
Training company CAE has showcased its 700MXR flight simulator for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft pilot training at the airshow.
GE has successfully conducted tests of a megawatt-class and multi-kilovolt hybrid-electric system in altitude conditions up to 45,000ft at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) electric aircraft test bed in Ohio. GE aims to develop a hybrid electric propulsion system for entry-into-service in the mid-2030s, with flight tests scheduled to begin by the end of this decade.
Embraer has clinched a firm order from Canada-based Porter Airlines for 20 E195-E2 aircraft. Porter, expected to receive its first E195-E2 later in 2022, has 50 firm commitments and 50 purchase rights for the type.
Separately, the Brazil-headquartered company said Alaska Air has ordered eight E175 aircraft, with options for 13 more of the type. The aircraft, to be flown on behalf of Alaska Airlines by Horizon Air, will be delivered between 2023 and 2027.
Pratt & Whitney has secured an eight-year contract with Turkish Airlines for maintenance and upgrades of 82 APS3200 auxiliary power units (APU) installed on the Star Alliance member's A320s. Up to 25 new APS3200 APUs will be installed on the carrier’s fleet each year.
Rolls-Royce client, Norse Atlantic Airways, has contracted to the engine maker's TotalCare services agreement for maintenance of the Trent 1000 engines that power its 787s.
