Hague judge hands down life sentences for fatal MH17 shooting down

The court yesterday sentenced Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinskiy and Leonardo Kharchenko to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of murder, intentionally downing the B777 passenger aircraft as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. A fourth man, Oleg Pulatov, was acquitted of all charges. Malaysia Airlines 777-200ER, registration 9M-MRD and operating as flight MH17, was en route to Malaysia’s capital city when it was shot down over Ukraine by a Russian Buk 9M83 surface-to-air missile. The case was heard in absentia as all four defendants did not attend the trial.
