U.S. asks for more time to consider Korean Air-Asiana Airlines merger

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has told Korean Air (KAL) it needs longer to review the flag carrier’s proposed merger with Asiana Airlines. Read More » The DoJ commenced its formal review of the merger of the two largest airline groups in South Korea in August. At the time, it said the process would take about 75 days, indicating a decision around mid-November. The U.S. is the latest regulator to seek extra time to evaluate the proposed KAL-Asiana amalgamation. The U.K. Competition and Markets Authority has raised concerns about the deal and asked the parties to submit additional information.
