Air India will install new seats and the latest inflight entertainment systems on its “legacy” 27 787-8s and 13 777 family aircraft at a cost of US$400 million. Read More » The cabin upgrade will include retaining first class on its 777s - a mix of 777-200LRs and 777-300ERs - and the introduction of premium economy cabins on the airline’s 787-8s and 777s. Air India CEO, Campbell Wilson, said the carrier was committed to the highest standards of product and service befitting a world class airline. “We know the cabin product on our 40 legacy wide-bodies falls short of this standard,” he said. “The project commenced some months ago, so we are delighted to publicly announce this significant investment of a complete interior refit. We are confident that when revealed the new interiors will delight customers and show Air India in a new light.” The Star Alliance member said London-based product design companies, JPA Design and Trendworks, were supporting the cabin upgrades, with the first refurbished aircraft to enter service in mid-2024. In the interim, Air India has leased A320 family and 777 family aircraft furnished with new interiors.
