Air New Zealand on mission to develop next generation zero-emissions aircraft

The airline has signed a Statement of Intent to Order three aircraft with options for another 20 from one or more of the partners, subject to evaluation. “Mission NextGen Aircraft is not about backing one innovator,” Air NZ CEO, Greg Foran, said. “It's about working with a range of leaders in zero-emissions aircraft technology to move the whole ecosystem along. Our goal is to confirm our commitment with one or more of these partners in the next 12 months with the ambition of purchasing an aircraft for delivery from 2026.” Additionally, the Star Alliance member has agreed a strategic alliance with New Zealand’s green-hydrogen supplier and refuelling infrastructure company, Hiringa Energy.
