New Garuda CEO still a mystery
October 7th 2014
Indonesian flag carrier Garuda Indonesia (GA) has yet to find a replacement for its departing chief executive officer (CEO) Emirsyah Satar who will leave office by end-October. Read More »
Satar has previously indicated he preferred his successor to come from within GA “so that he or she will understand the problems in the airline and knows how to resolve them,” he said.
GA has reported a first-half net loss of $212 million, deepened 19 times over the same period a year earlier, amid on-going restructuring, a depreciated rupiah and long-haul expansion into Europe.
Former GA sales and marketing director Elisa Lumbantoruan has been rumoured to be at the top of Satar’s wish list, but the Indonesian government, as the carrier’s biggest stakeholder, is said to not be keen on an insider.
Rather, as Indonesian state news agency Antara has reported, State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Minister Dahlan Iskan said it was “still evaluating the candidates,” but confirmed that former Bank Mandiri director Zulkifli Zaini and Bank Rakyat Indonesia president Sofyan Basyir – both government-owned enterprise employees – were under close consideration for the top post at GA.
