IndiGo’s pilots cleared to use digital technical manuals on flight deck

India's Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given IndiGo the go-ahead to reduce more physical paper in the cockpits of its Airbus aircraft with electronic alternatives, delivering weight and fuel savings. Read More » The LCC said the DGCA had granted Less Paper Cockpit (LPC) approval for it to dispense with physical technical paper manuals, saving 40 kg in weight per flight. IndiGo began installing cockpit electronic flight bag technology in 2015. “By replacing paper manuals with iPads, we have taken a big step towards strengthening digitisation and increasing sustainability,” IndiGo senior vice president for flight operations, Captain Ashim Mittra, said. “The iPad allows pilots to access information quickly and nimbly, making decisions in the cockpit safer and more efficient.”
