MAY 2015

Week 19

Overview

The focus in Asia-Pacific aviation this week was on traffic between the Mainland and the United States. Saying the trans-Pacific market represented “low hanging fruit”, Dr. Zhihang Chi, Air China vice-president North America, prompted TWIAPA to take a closer look at the latest developments on both sides of the Pacific. In Thailand, the local carriers remain concentrated on meeting the critical June 2 deadline to conform to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s safety regulations otherwise they risk being issued with a costly downgrade. In Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific Airways hopes to cash in on the recent cargo recovery, while in Japan at All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines significant earnings chart the way for expansion.
