Overview

It has been a week of consolidation and partnerships, or not, in Asia-Pacific aviation. ANA Holdings said it was considering buying 20% of Vietnam Airlines, Qantas and Emirates declared they wanted to extend their alliance, Indonesia AirAsia and Indonesia AirAsia X said they were not going to merge after all, and Airbus announced its partnership discussions with Bombardier would not be pursued. In Thailand, the authorities are bracing themselves for the next FAA inspection, scheduled for October 26, while in Malaysia, MAB is facing a B737 cockpit crew surplus.
