AUGUST 2016

Week 33

Overview

It has been a game changing week for Indonesian aviation as the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) restored the country’s Category 1 safety rating, meaning Indonesian carriers may again launch services to the U.S. or codeshare with a U.S. airline. Meanwhile, the reporting season is still in full swing across the Asia-Pacific, producing both winners and losers. Cebu Pacific Air had a fantastic first half, growing its net profit 33% to $164 million, while Cathay Pacific Airways’ first-half earnings slumped 82% and Korean Air’s second quarter loss grew to an astonishing $221 million. In India, GoAir has received its first international route permits and in Dubai Emirates Airline has been praised for its prompt recovery action following the crash landing of EK521 on August 3.
