Orient Aviation’s Week in the Asia-Pacific
By Dominic Lalk
It has been a week of takeovers and avionics orders in Asia-Pacific aviation. China’s larger-than-life HNA Group confirmed its intention to acquire a 25% stake in Hilton Worldwide, and avionics expert, Rockwell Collins, announced an $8.3 billion takeover of cabin interiors specialist, B/E Aerospace. Separately, both Rockwell Collins and Panasonic Avionics revealed significant orders from China Eastern Airlines, Emirates Airline and Air Tahiti Nui. In Toulouse and Chicago, Airbus and Boeing this week presented their third quarter results, which leave the Americans in a much stronger cash position than its European rivals. On the airline front, Air India has set a world record for the longest commercial flight and Malaysia Airlines is due to launch a separate hajj flight entity before year-end.
