  • In a trading update yesterday, Singapore Airlines (SIA) said it expected to post a "material operating loss for the first quarter" of its fiscal 2021 year because of a slower than expected easing of international travel restrictions. "Our current view is the recovery trajectory will be slower than initially projected and will have a material impact on our revenue generation capability in fiscal year 2020-2021," SIA said.   • Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA) said yesterday it planned to operate 88% of originally scheduled domestic flights in August to cater for an expected recovery in demand during the country's summer holidays and in response to promotional campaigns. ANA forecast it would reach 95% of originally scheduled capacity pre the pandemic – from August 7 to August 17. Read More »

  • China Airlines' monthly traffic report showed the Taiwan flag carrier flew 16,241 passengers in June, down 98.8% from 1.35 million in the prior corresponding period. However, the June figure represented an improvement from 11,031 passengers in May. Capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), was up 70% from May to June, while demand, measured by revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), grew by 60%. Read More »

  • The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said late last week Air China's Beijing to Moscow service would be suspended for one week after more than five passengers tested positive to coronavirus on a flight on July 4. The suspension was part of CAAC rules introduced in June, with airlines able to increase international service to and from China if no passengers tested positive for three consecutive weeks. AirAsia Group in talks to raise US$235 million in fresh capital

AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes, said this week the company was working on raising as much as 1 billion ringgit (US$235 million) in Malaysia and had applied for loans in Indonesia and the Philippines as he sought to reassure investors about the low-cost carrier's (LCC) financial position.
