European Commission revises deadline for ruling on Korean Air-Asiana Airlines merger

The European Commission (EC) is allowing Korean Air (KAL) and Asiana Airlines more time to respond to its preliminary view that the proposed integration of the two carriers may reduce competition on passenger flights from South Korea to France, Germany, Italy and Spain and also on cargo routes between all of Europe and South Korea. Read More » The original deadline of August 3, has been waived after KAL asked for the deadline extension, a KAL spokesperson told local media. Before the updated timetable was announced, the EC was scheduled to deliver its final ruling on the matter on August 3. Asiana and KAL also are awaiting the final determinations on their proposed integration from the U.S. and Japan.
