U.S. government denies Delta Air Lines application to vary slot use at Tokyo Haneda airport

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DoT) has rejected a Delta Air Lines application to utilise up to two of its U.S.-Tokyo Haneda slot pairs to serve the downtown airport from any U.S. gateway of Delta’s choosing. Read More » “The Department does not find the public interest will be served by granting Delta’s motion,” the DoT said. “The Department believes, consistent with our past practice, that should any of the carriers selected for Haneda service wish to change their U.S. gateway, the public interest will be best served by our consideration of such a request on the basis of a fresh and complete evidentiary record in light of the circumstances presented at that time.” Delta's application is part of a three-year pilot program. It was supported by American Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines but strongly opposed by United Airlines.
