Qantas Airways designates Canberra-Melbourne as inaugural A220 route

Qantas Airways said its A220s will begin commercial flying in early 2024 starting with Canberra-Melbourne, expanding domestically and eventually also operating on short-haul international services. Read More » The oneworld alliance member has ordered 29 A220-300s for the group’s regional subsidiary, QantasLink, replacing the carrier’s 717s. The aircraft are being configured with 10 business and 127 economy seats. Assembly of the A220-300s has commenced at the Airbus Mirabel facility in Canada. The general public is being asked to nominate names, based on native wildlife themes, for the group’s first six A220s. “The A220 represents the next generation of our domestic fleet in passenger comfort, aircraft range and opportunities for our people, so seeing the first aircraft taking shape is incredibly exciting,” QantasLink CEO, John Gissing, said.
